I-10 Bayway Project Overview

I-10 Bayway Design-Build Project

The Alabama Department of Transportation’s (ALDOT) I-10 Bayway Project involves construction of a new low-level bridge that replaces over 7 miles of existing bridge across the Mobile Bay with a wider structure. Positioned east of the new Mobile River Bridge, the project will replace two existing two-lane bridges, expanding I-10 from four to six lanes.

The new elevated structure will be approximately 25’ above the Mobile Bay and extend approximately 7.4 miles from the high-level approach of the Mobile River Bridge to the US 90/98 Eastern Shore interchange in Daphne.

The Project scope also includes:

  • Rehabilitation of East Tunnel Interchange Bridges, including ancillary elements attached to or associated with the East Tunnel Interchange bridges (signing/striping, drainage, ITS, lighting, barrier)
  • Infrastructure to support installation of an all-electronic Roadside Toll Collection System (RTCS)
  • On-and-off ramps and modified interchanges
  • Connections of the new Bayway to the existing connections at the East Tunnel Interchange
  • Drainage, lighting, and utility coordination
  • Demolition of the existing Bayway, including bridges, ramps, and roadways

ALDOT Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) Goals

ALDOT has submitted a proposed project DBE goal of 3.89% of the estimated contract price (the sum of the NTE Amount, the Project GMP, and any other amounts payable for Work under the DBA), which goal may be met through DBE participation in design and construction Work combined.

KMT is committed to meeting the DBE goals set forth by ALDOT for this Project.

Firms should be certified as a Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) by the Alabama Unified Certification Program in order for their participation to count towards the established DBE goal. Firms currently certified in their home state Unified Certification Program may apply for DBE with ALDOT.
